Meurer Research Achieves Major Milestones & Marks 36th Year
Company Treats 3 Billion Gallons-Per-Day & Installs 1000th Hoseless Cable-Vac Sludge Collector
GOLDEN, COLO—May 1, 2014— Meurer Research, Inc., (MRI) an engineering and manufacturing company with over 50 patents and thousands of installations of advanced water and wastewater treatment equipment, hit the 3 billion treated gallons-per-day (GPD) mark with its high-capacity Inclined Plate Settlers. In addition, MRI installed its one-thousandth Hoseless Cable-VacTM Sludge Collector, while celebrating 36 years in operation.
Three billion GPD was achieved when the Utah Valley Water Treatment Plant in Orem, UT, came online in April, 2014. The installation treats 80 MGD.
To put the milestone into perspective, three billion GPD is enough clean water for the average daily water use of:
- 11% of the U.S. *
- 23 of the largest cities in the U.S.
- 93% of the population of California**
Served in an 8-ounce glass, 3 billion gallons provides enough to serve every person in the entire world 6.5 glasses of water, each day.
MRI’s installations range in capacity from hundreds of gallons-per-minute to hundreds of millions of gallons-per-day in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South Korea, and Australia.
The first install of MRI Inclined Plate Settlers—the company’s signature product—was at the City of Arvada, Colorado, Water Treatment Plant in 2001. Still in operation today, MRI Plate Settlers enable the City to decrease its basin size by a factor of 8 over non-plate designs and increase treatment flow to 40 MGD.
Encouraged by the ability to increase capacity while saving on space and costs significantly, other municipalities soon adopted MRI Plate Settlers. MRI’s largest installation—and the largest single stainless steel plate settler installation in the U.S.—is the beautiful Miramar Water Treatment Plant in San Diego, CA, with a design flow of 220 MGD.
“Demand for treated water continues to increase, and financially constrained facilities are pressed to find solutions for properties that are utilized fully already. We are delighted to provide treatment equipment that helps municipalities meet increased demand efficiently,” said Lonnie Meurer, President, MRI.
One Thousand Hoseless Cable-Vac Sludge Collectors Installed
Recently, MRI installed its one thousandth Hoseless Cable-Vac Sludge Collector at the 2.5 MGD Jefferson, Georgia, Water Treatment Plant.
Developed in 2002, MRI’s patented Hoseless Cable-Vac Sludge Collectors meet the need for a low-profile, reliable sludge removal system that can be used with plate and tube settlers. The first installation was 12 units at the Forest Park, Pennsylvania Water Treatment Plant. By eliminating the problematic sludge hose and the need for a guide rail, the design has proven to be the most reliable and efficient method of sludge collection. MRI’ hoseless technology is preferred by most major engineering firms.
“We are pleased to mark 36 years as a company with these significant installation milestones. Going forward, we will continue to develop advanced water treatment solutions that satisfy increasingly stringent regulations, growing demand, and ongoing site constraints,” said Lonnie Meurer, President, MRI.
